I have big plans for 2019 and I want you all to be able to go through it with me so I will be giving monthly updates throughout the year.

I think it is important to first take a look back at 2018…..

I started out the year racing Yamaha 85’s switched to Yamaha Supermini’s after my first time racing a supermini at Monster Cup in Las Vegas.

I was in a video game.  The guys at MX VS ATV added me as a profile in the new video game released in April.

I went to several pro races and had a lot of fun with all my sponsors.

I had fun riding bikes and doing tricks on my Oset

Made the now famous “robe” videos.  lol (Part 1, 2 and 3)

In July I got a KTM 125 and switched to big bikes.

In July I also filmed the infamous KiKi video…. Can you tell I just like to have a good time?

I did a lot of practicing on the 125 and did several races.

I released my second song to help my buddy Weston Peick after his motocross crash.

I helped my Mom make a dirt bike video for her work

…and lots of time racing and practicing

This is a great video of a 65cc race at Oatfield Raceway in Turlock.  9 Bikes went out in the first gate and I was in the second gate with 7 other bikes.

I got a great start and was able to get the hole shot and stay out front.  You will see me passing some bikes, but these are kids not racing in my class.

On the second lap I took a hard fall.  By the time I was able to get up and get my bike going the second and third place riders were able to catch me and took over the lead.

On the third and fourth laps the yellow bike #10, Jeremy Ryan, and I battled back and forth several times for the lead.

On the fifth and final lap I was able to walk away with the win.

It was a great battle, and you will be able to see that the track was really rough.  What a fun race!

Back in school from the Thanksgiving Holiday and back to a routine.  It is a little hard to plan to far in advance when I am going dirt bike riding, because it really depends on the rain.  😦  It seems like when I think I might go riding it is raining or has rained too much to go.  How much longer till summer time?

I got my report card from school.  My parents were so happy with me because I am doing very good in school.  They like it when my homework is all turned in and I get good grades on my math, and my spelling is getting better (no spell check in class).  My family is also very happy with my behavior in class.  I got really good marks and my teacher told them that I am good in class. Yah!  Over break the family went bowling to celebrate my great report card……Hailey won, but I came in second.

My teacher recommended I start reading Diary Of A Wimpy Kid books.  I don’t really like to read a lot, unless it is about a dirt bikes, but this book was really good.  I could not put the book down and I had to keep reading to see what was going to happen next.

As you can see….the book is really funny and I can totally relate….. 🙂

BROKEN

A dirt bike frame is made of “Chromoly” tubing.  (Chromoly is like steel on steroids.  It contains Chromium and molybdenum a splash of carbon and mostly iron).  A dirt bike frame is the main component of a dirt bike that the wheels and engine and other components are fitted on.  The frame design for a dirt bike consists of triangles holding the main support of the bike.  The triangle shape is used for extra strength and support.  The dirt bike suspension (front forks and rear spring) also absorb the impact when I jump.  My bikes are made with extra stong metal, we have the best suspension, and is constructed to withstand impact.  My Dad and Grandpa have added extra support pieces to ensure that my bikes are as safe as possible for me. 

Although the bikes are made with the best metal and designed with jumping in mind, this one did not make it.  I wonder if the builder knows how much I ride these bikes and how far I jump?  I am so lucky it did not break as I was in the air, I would have had an extra hard landing!    😦

My Dad had some advice for me…..maybe I should not jump 70 foot triples.

I had no school on Thursday and Friday which gave me a four-day weekend.  HAPPY VERTERANS DAY!

Thursday I went practicing in San Jose at 408MX.  The track was really good and some of my friends were there and we all had a really good time racing each other.

Friday my Mom took me bowling.  It was sooo much fun!  My Dad and I were watching TV last week and a bowling commercial came on and I told my Dad we should go bowling soon.  My Dad told my Mom and she took me.  We had so much fund…..and I won.  When we came home we collared pictures and watched a movie.

Saturday we went racing in Turlock at Oatfield Raceway.  I love this track, but it was a little tough for me this time.  I picked up some speed, but I had a hard time keeping it on two wheels.  The track had a ton of ruts and breaking bumps and my bikes were all over the place.  In one race I got a bad start and was in last…..I raced through traffic and made it into first…..I crashed hard and by the time I got going again I was in last…..I raced back to first again….I crashed again and finished in last.  I made the day really hard for myself, because I kept falling and had to keep chasing everyone down.  I raced 50 open and finished with a 2nd, 65 age I finished 2nd and 65 open I finished 5th.  I rode really good, but did not have the best luck.  It was a really fun day!

Sunday I helped my Dad clean the bikes and run some errands around town.  We had a fun boys day.

Now it is back to school.  😦

I came across a few dirt bike sayings I thought you might like.  Although I had a lot of fun making this video, I am not a very good actor……I think I will stick to riding.  The video shows my take on my top 20 favorite motocross sayings.

HERE COMES THE BRIDE

Friday November 5th my big sister, Elyssa, got married.  Elyssa got married to Nick who is a really nice guy and always plays video games and ball with me.  I held the rings for them and everything was really nice, I even wore a tie.  My sister Hailey was the maid of honor and the wedding had  a purple theme.  We went to Nick’s parents house after the ceremony to have a toast before dinner, and I was able to play with his little dog – Mickey.  The reception was at Scott’s Seafood in Walnut Creek and everything was very fancy.  Although dinner was good, I couldn’t wait for cake time.  Congrats to Elyssa and Nick Bugnatto……Love you guys!

Now you can see what I see…..We just got a helmet camera that records when I am going around the track.  This will help us to review things on the track and help me go faster.  This is also a really good way for you to see what it is like to ride on the track like I do.  This is the first video we did just to try out the helmet cam and see what you think.

I know that my family and friends are sometimes scared when I race my dirt bike (especially Grandma.)  Many people wonder what kind of safety equipment I wear since I know I will be falling. 

I looked on-line and found the top 5 most dangerous extreme sports….don’t look Grandma.

  1. Ultimate Fighting
  2. Base Jumping
  3. Bull Riding
  4. Motocross Riding
  5. Cave Diving

Even before we knew that motocross was number 4 on the list my Mom and Dad always spend the most money on my safety equipment.  They always buy me the best and as soon as something is worn a little they replace it to make sure that I am always 100% protected.

HELMET:  A helmet should fit snuggly and be lightweight, but be rated properly.  The helmet is one item that I replace often.  Whenever I take a hard fall, or several small falls, my parents replace my helmet.  This is the one item that is hard to know if it is still protecting you.  A helmet could show no sign of damage and have been compromised because of an impact and not working.  It is better to be safe than sorry, so always replace the helmet after an impact.

NECK COLLAR:  Several different neck collars are available and it is important to find something that works with your body.  I us an EVS neck brace that is soft around my neck but supports my helmet and shoulders.  The neck collar should work with your helmet and chest protector…these three items are the most important to protect against head, neck and back injuries.

CHEST PROTECTOR:  My chest protector has changed since I started riding.  When I first started riding I wore the standard plastic protector that covers your chest and rib cage.  These protectors do help against impact, but they have side and arm straps that can be very dangerous.  In one of my races I got together with another bike and the strap from my chest protector was caught on the other bike and I was drug down the track.  When that happened we looked into other alternatives and found that “bull riding vests” protect the body much better without straps.  These vests are very hard and wrap the entire upper body also protecting your sides, which the others do not do.

KNEE PADS:  Knee pads are very important.  When I first started riding I had little knee pads that only protected my knee cap and every time I fell on them they would slide up my knee.  Just recently my knees have been bothering me and I was getting a lot of bruises on the side of my leg.  We just invested in some really tough pads that also brace the side of my knee.   Having anything on is helpful and does take some of the initial impact away from your knee, but it is important that they are protect also against side impact.  My current knee pads have a bar on each side of my knee and they go up high on my thigh and into my boot for almost a full leg protection.  Since I have started using these knee pads, I have not had any more bruises on my legs.

BOOTS:  It is important to have good fitting motocross boots.  I know some parents buy kids shoes a little big because they grow so fast.  It is important to have your motocross boots fit correctly.  A boot that is too big won’t provide enough ankle support and it will be hard for the rider to use the shifter and rear brake levers.  Right now I am wearing Oneal Monster boots, but I will be getting new boots soon.

RIDING SOCKS:  When you wear riding boots and knee pads, your legs and feet would be really sore without the proper socks.  I wear two kinds of socks together to protect my feet and legs.  I have long socks that go high on my leg just over the top of my knee.  I then put on a second sock that has no feet that goes from my calve to my upper thigh.

RIDING PANTS:  Most dirt bike riders wear “in the boot” riding pants, however I like the “over the boot” pants.  This is just a personal choice and both pants work the same.  Riding pants a sturdy and tear resistant and come with hip pads that cushion the hip bones during a crash.  Because these pants are thick, in most cases they protect the rider against the mud, dirt, and weather.

JERSEY:  Motocross Jerseys are also worn with protection in mind.  Most jerseys have padded elbows that allow additional protection.  The jersey helps protect against small scratches and scrapes and is a great base for all of the protection equipment we put on top.

ELBOW PADS:  Elbow pads can be worn under a jersey or on top of the jersey…I wear mine on top.  Elbow pads are not very big and do move around when you crash.  The idea of the elbow pad is to protect the elbow against the initial impact of a fall.  I often get scratches on my arm and elbow when I crash, but the initial impact is absorbed with the pad and it is made to move as I do to help prevent serious injury.

GLOVES:  Gloves protect your hands and help when trying to hold on to the bike.  It is important to pick gloves that don’t have excess room in the finger tips and are comfortable.  

GOGGLES:  When you choose goggles, you must have your helmet with you.  Goggles fit differently with the helmet and it is important to have a comfortable fit that protects you.  The goggles should fit snuggly leaving no gaps for dirt or rocks to slip through.  I have a little bit of a hard time with that because I have a little nose that usually allows a little bit of dirt to sneak through.  Along with goggles, I have to also say Tear Offs.  When I am racing other bikes often throw dirt in my face, I put tear off’s on my lenses to easily remove the dirt.

 

Safety gear is not cheap, but very important.  When you are riding fast and racing against other people, falls and crashes are going to happen and my parents do their best to protect me.  After this crash below, I got up and finished the race….thanks to my safety gear!

The seventh rounds of the 2010 CMC Transcal finished up this weekend with a two-day race.  What a weekend! 

Saturday we raced in the rain…  It was cold, cloudy and windy with small showers throughout the day.  Towards the end of the day the clouds broke, but the rain kept coming and while I was racing the track had a huge rainbow over it.  I raced three classes (6 races) and finished 1st in each race.

Sunday the weather was completely different, what a difference a day makes.  The morning started out with so much fog, I couldn’t see the track from the parking lot.  By the time races started the sun was out and we finished out the day hot.  On Sunday I decided to race four classes (8 races) because I also wanted to race the 65cc Open class.  I was able to finish out the day without any crashes and ended with all four 1st place finishes.

Since this was the last race of the series we also received our series awards.  Out of all the 49 classes that were run by people from the age of 4 to 50+, I was the only person to win 3 Championships.  I received 3 end of the series trophies, 3 new pairs of goggles, a Fox shirt, a mechanics apron, tie downs, a lanyard, and….a New BMX Bike!  I was so excited, I can’t wait to get my new BMX Bike in the mail. 🙂

So I finished up the weekend with 10 1st place trophies some goodies, a new bike, and Trick-or-Treating.  I have to admit the trick-or-treating was not as long as I usually go…..I was too tired.

I want to thank my Dad for all the work he does on my bikes every day and everything he does for me at each race.  My Dad gives me bikes that are always working at their best to help me win races.  I would also like to thank my Mom and Sister for being at every race and helping me with all my gear and tips throughout the races.  Also a big thanks to Grandma & Grandpa for being my biggest cheerleaders.   

Now all I need is some sponsors!  🙂

TRICK-OR-TREAT

Friday I was able to wear my costume to school and walk in the parade and have a party in class.  We had a fun day getting ready for Halloween.  After school we came home and carved pumpkins.  It was such a mess and soo much fun!

We have a busy Halloween weekend.  Saturday I have a race in Dixon and Sunday I have a second race at Dixon.  These are the last two races of the series.  After the Sunday race, we will hurry home to go trick-or-treating.  I am going to be an Evil Jester.

BUMPS:  Monday night my Mom twisted her ankle and is not supposed to walk on it for a couple of weeks.  When she fell, the first thing I did was run to the freezer and get the bag of frozen corn to help her feel better.  That is what my Mom always does when I get hurt and she was so happy I was there to help her.  My Dad, Sister and I have been trying to help around the house but it has been hard to make Mom sit down.  I hope Mom feels better soon!

THE BLUES:  Wednesday was a “blue” day.  Everyday at school we start with our names on Green and we can move up or down the color chart depending on classroom behavior.  Blue is the highest you can go and I have gotten blue twice this week already.  My Mom and Dad love when I do good in school and they were so excited I got Blue today.

BIKES:  Wednesday I practiced at Club Moto.  The track was a little hard to ride on because they brought in a lot of sand and it had not yet been worked in.  I love practice days because I get to race against bigger bikes and older boys.  Although most of them are much older (over 14 years old) and the bikes have bigger motors than mine, I work really hard to hold them off as long as I can and race them as they pass me…..I try not to let them have an easy pass on me.  I thought you might like to see a couple of videos of practice.  Even though the track was a little rough and I did fall down (7:00 of first video on my 50cc bike), you can get the idea of how practice goes.

Last weekend our race was cancelled because of the rain, but I hope we get to race this weekend.  Keep your fingers crossed.  🙂

Many people often wonder what the difference is between SUPERCROSS and MOTOCROSS.  Even though they look the same, they have many differences and most dirt bike riders often choose one or the other when racing.

Motocross racing was developed first and it takes place in outdoor venues.  The track sizes vary, but many tend to be around one or two miles long.  The tracks most commonly include large hills, different size jumps, irregular right and left hand turns, and other obstacles that require gear changes.  Because of the large track layout, motocross races allow for larger class sizes and very high-speed riding.  Motocross tracks can usually be found in rural or country locations and it is sometimes difficult for spectators to see the entire track from one location.  Motocross tracks usually use the dirt on the ground and bring in additional dirt to build jumps, because of the high-speed and large class sizes motocross tracks usually get large breaking  bumps and become rutted up throughout the day.

Supercross is conducted on a specially constructed dirt race track usually within a stadium style facility.  The man-made tracks are created to duplicate similar racing conditions found in outdoor motocross racing in a smaller venue.  The length of the course is dependant on the size of the facility used.  Supercross tracks are usually easier for spectators to see the entire course, but the number of riders are usually limited because of the smaller track size.  Because the track is much smaller, you have less speed coming into the jumps.  The jumps are constructed with a sharp take off which will project you higher than the motocross track that projects you further.

So the weather changed our plans this weekend.  We did practice on Wednesday at club Moto and Thursday at Argyll in Dixon.  The two-day race at Argyll was re-scheduled for next weekend because of rain.  Since I was going to have the weekend off from racing,  I thought I could get a little more riding in before the rain came…..not exactly.  I decided to race Friday night at Sacramento Raceway, but the race was in the rain.  I had never been to the Sacramento Raceway and it was very different from what I usually ride.  The track was more of a supercross track, a lot slower than I am used to and more technical.  The race started at 6pm and we raced under the lights in the rain.  I was able to show up at this track and get two 1st place trophies and a 2nd place trophy.  It was a lot of fun, but the race went until late.  My friend Brandon #19 went with us to the track and spent the night at my house after.  We were so tired!

Saturday my Dad and I cleaned the bikes and worked to get them ready for next week.  The family went out for pizza and went to the end of Booville.  Sunday My Mom and sisters went shopping and my Dad, Nick and I had a boys day of playing ball, XBOX, and raced dirt bikes.  We had a family night of playing games, wrestling, making cookies, and watching TV.

Last night I practiced at Club Moto in Livermore.  We worked on a few new things and tried a new suspension.  The new suspension was awesome!  It was so different…..I was able to jump higher and further off the jumps and come out of the corner faster.  With the new suspension every time I landed or went over the bumps the bike just sat down and went, I was not getting bounced forward.  What a difference!  I did have one hard fall in the first round of practice.  I was on my old bike and the track was really bad.  I went over a bump going up hill and just got thrown out….the bike and I went tumbling a few times and I landed right on my butt cheek.  I got a little scratch on my arm, but I really hurt my butt, ouch! 

Tonight I am going to practice in Argyll MX in Dixon.  This weekend we have a two-day race at the Dixon track.  Instead of practice on Saturday and race on Sunday like most race weekends, this weekend we have a full race day on Saturday and another one on Sunday.  Sunday is the finale of this CMC Spring series and the points from all seven races of the last races will be added up to crown a champion.  I have been working really hard this series to keep my points up to try to win the championship, so keep your fingers crossed and wish me luck!

I have been “banned……..from writting about dirt bikes” in school.  My teacher told me that I had to write my stories about something other than dirt bikes…..what?  I was so upset about being banned.  Even though all my stories are about dirt bikes, I write about different race tracks and about my different dirt bikes, it’s not always the same story. 

I really like my teacher and I know she is just trying to help me learn new things!  She lifted the ban and said I could write about dirt bikes only one day a week….I guess that is better than never.  I am not really good at new things, I think it will take some time to get used to…  😦

This last weekend I raced in Marysville at the MMX Track.  I love this track because it is a wide track that allows you to go really fast.  The track is very sandy with wide sweeping turns so you can keep your speed up through most of the track.  I love going fast!

Saturday was practice and I worked all day to find the fastest way around the track.  The last practice of the day I took a really hard fall.  As I was going over the long table top I landed sideways and went down so hard I broke my helmet.  Thanks to Dylan #123, he loaned me a helmet to be able to continue riding….. I guess first thing this week we will have to go buy a new helmet.

Sunday the races started and so did the rain.  The day started mild, but as we went through the races, the rain started coming down hard.  By the end of the day the track was really wet and a little tricky to ride.  I worked really hard and was able to finish up the weekend with a 1st place in all six races…..YA!!!  what a weekend.

I have attached a video, but it is not the best…..  It was really windy and it is hard to see the whole track.  I know a lot of you like to see what the different tracks look like, and this will give you an idea of the layout.  This is the 1st 50cc race.  They had two gates with the beginner kids leaving in the second gate.  towards the end of the video you will see me passing some of the riders from that class.

Below is a video of my first 65cc race at Chico Cycleland on 10-10-10.  In this race they had two gates, and  I was in the second gate.  I was able to get the hole- shot and stay in 1st throughout the race.  As you will see in the video I was able to catch up and pass riders from the first gate.
