For the first time in 40 years, the second day of the amateur race was ran on the “official” pro track.  Usually the back section of the pro track is not raced on by the armatures and a different starting gate is used for each race.  Because of the rain delay, they decided to “make it up” by letting everyone race the whole track.  I was so excited to try some of the lines I watched the pro’s race the day before.

30 KTM 65 bikes signed up to race the armature race on Sunday and  I had two pretty consistent races.  After passing for third I was taken out coming down the hill, I was able to get up and going fast enough to stay up front.  In both races, I was able to start in the front of the pack and battle for the front spots.  I was able to finish one race in 3rd and one in 4th for a 4th place overall finish.

Below are a few pictures from practice and the races:

The pro start has a huge sweeping turn that wraps around and goes straight into horsepower hill

This picture of horsepower hill was taken in practice.  You can see that several riders had a problem at the top of the hill and I had to dodge people down at the top.

After horsepower hill the track wraps around and drops back down into the middle

A few sweeping turns and a couple of larger jumps

A few more jumps leading towards the back pro section of the track

After several up hill jumps and winding left and right, it was back down the hill and out of the trees

A right turn and into a long section of large whoops

At the end of the whoops is the finish line…

or the track continues through more turns, a few step ups, a rhythm section and back around to the start

The track was really long and soooo fun!

Saturday was the Lucas Oil Motocross Washougal National race.  We got up early to watch practice, walked through the pits some more, and watched the races.  It was so fun to watch the pro’s and see what lines they were taking and I got some ideas for my race the next day.

We had a great spot to watch the races, and for the second race I managed to work my way into the Rockstar-Makita-Suzuki VIP tent.  It was the perfect spot to watch the race and I could watch the TV to see the parts of the track that were really far way.

Friday morning we woke up and the sun was shining in Washougal Washington.  8am we started practice and the track was really muddy from the rain the night before.  I was racing my 50cc King Cobra and the track was so much fun!  After practice I had just over an hour till my race so I played xbox with my friends until it was my turn to race.

The Washougal Amateur National event had over 900 entries, and 32 of them were 50cc dirt bikes.

In the first race I slid into a rutt in the start and come out in about 4th place.  I worked my way to the front and was in the lead by the second lap.  On the last lap a lapped rider fell into me and knocked me off the track.   I was able to get my bike back on the track and going and finish the race in 2nd place.

In the second race I got the hole shot and stayed in the lead the whole race to win.  I got the 1st place overall win!

It was really cool to race because throughout the day some of the pro’s and their crew would come out to watch us race.

Since Ryan Villapoto is from Washington, the plaques we won had him on them.  I took my plaque into the pits and had Ryan sign my 1st place plaque and take a picture with me.

ME AND RV2

Monday we loaded up the truck and trailer and headed toward Washougal Washington for an Amateur National Race.  We drove for about 10 hours and meet up with our friends in Oregon at Albany Raceway.  As soon as we got into Oregon it started raining and continued raining the whole night.  We went to sleep and when we got up in the morning it was beautiful outside.  We walked around the race facility and saw that most of the track and the entire starting gate was under water.  We loaded up and continued on our trip about two hours into Washougal Washington.

The goal is to get to the field early enough to get into line to entire the park.  The place is huge and not having a good camping spot would mean a ton of walking to and from the track.  We got to the field just after lunch and we were about 9th in line.  Trailers continued to load up the field all afternoon and into the night.  At 10:00 in the morning the grounds were open and we went in to claim our camping sites.  All of our friends took over a great section close to the track, we set up camp and headed up to get a look at the track.

Thursday morning was race time!  We got up early and began practice at 7am.  As practice started, so did the rain!  We got through the entire practice schedule and tried to start the races, but the rain was getting worse.  The race had to be cancelled and moved to Sunday, and it continued to rain until late in the evening.  We all huddled under our awnings and wondered if we would be able to race the next day……….

This weekend I raced all three of my dirt bikes at the 408MX night race.  I raced my 50cc, 65cc, and 85cc dirt bikes.

50cc:  On both my 50 races I got good starts and raced hard to stay out front and finish both races in 1st place.

65cc:  On my first 65 race I also had a really good race and finished 1st.  At the end of the race I had a bike problem and I wasn’t going to be able to compete in the second race.  My friend Dustin #00 let me barrow his bike for the second race.  We all have a lot of money invested in our dirt bikes, and it was very cool that Dustin and his family was OK with me riding on his bike.  We didn’t have any time to tape over the numbers, so the score keepers had to score us off the numbers on the back of our chest protectors. lol  I had an OK start and within a few turns I was able to get the hang of the new bike and battle up to the front.  I was able to finish the race in 1st and took the 1st place overall.

85cc:  In my first 85 race I had a really hard battle and was able to finish the race in 1st place.  During the second race I was in the lead and slid out on the last lap.  I was able to finish the race in 3rd place and got a 2nd place overall.

After the race was over my friend Justin and I thought it would be funny to battle each other on the top of the potium….then a few silly faces.

SPECIAL THANKS TO THE RENTERIA FAMILY FOR THE USE OF THE BIKE!!!!!!!!!!

When I am flying through the air and land flat on my back…..THE DIRT REALLY HURTS!

This week during practice I was having some really good sessions, but just before the end of the night I tucked the front tire and got thrown into the air.  The next day when I dropped something on the floor my Mom said “God made dirt, and dirt don’t hurt.”  I reminded her about all the times I have fallen on my dirt bike and told her it hurts really bad.  lol

I know that anyone that has fallen on a dirt bike will agree that maybe God did make dirt, but dirt DOES hurt!  Thought I would share just of few caught in the act pics just for fun.

THANKS LARRY AND JOSH…..YOU GUYS ROCK !

Saturday was boys day for my Dad and I.  My Mom and my sister had plans, so my Dad and I went to a night race at 408MX in San Jose.

On my 1st 65 race I was in first when I fell over in a turn.  I was able to get back up and I fought my way all the way back to the front and was able to finish in 1st.  On the 2nd 65 race I was also doing really good and then my brakes went out.   I tried to race without brakes, but I couldn’t get slowed down enough to make the turns.  I wasn’t able to finish the race.

Both of my 85 races were also totally fun.  The 85 race was the best ever……I cleared the finish line triple over the top of another rider that doubled the jump, to take the lead.  It was so crazy that I could hear the crowed cheering and the announcer yelling while I was on the track.   I was able to work my way to the lead and finish 1st in both races.

Saturday night we decided to go to Los Banos for the night race, when we got to the track it was over 100 degrees outside.

The track was like nothing I ever rode before and I was excited to see what it was like.  I wrote before about supercross-vs-motocross….. I do motocross and the track at Los Banos is supercross.

The track looked really different with a lot of rhythm sections.  It was a little hard to figure out how to go through the rhythm sections the fastest way with only 5 laps of practice…..then it was time to start the races.

At this track we have to put transponders on our bikes and they record lap times.  Practice went pretty good!  On my 65 I was the 2nd fastest bike and on my 50 I was the fastest bike on the track.

When the races started I did good on my 50 but had a bunch of bad luck on my 65.

Both of my 50 races I got the hole shot and was able to stay out front for the wins.  I had not practiced on my 50 in a few months and it was fun to ride it again.

My 65 races were both kinda a mess.  I had a really good start in the first race, I was in second and gaining on first when I made a mistake and fell down.  I got back up and was racing back to the front through traffic.  I was right behind second place going around a large sweeper turn and the rider in front of me went down…..I had no place to go and crashed right into him and flew over the front of my bike.  In the second race I had a good start again and was again in second place when I slide out in one of the turns.  I got back up and again had to fight through traffic back to the front.  As I was passing a rider on the outside of a turn, he drove straight and him and I both crashed over the top of the burm.

After all the regular races they had the Top Gun main event.  This was a race with some really fast riders all working toward the $1100 purse.  The riders started staggered around the track with the fastest riders about a lap down.  It was a really fun race to watch and congrats to Jessy Nelson for coming from behind to win.

THANK YOU JESSICA FOR ALL THE GREAT PICTURES!

Wednesday at 408MX was Red Bull Ride Day and it was an adventure from start to finish.  We decided to go to 408MX to practice Tuesday night and then stay the night to watch the show put on by Red Bull during the day, and then practice again on Wednesday night.  The weather said barely any rain in San Jose, but half way to the track it started pouring and never stopped.

When we arrived Tuesday afternoon they already had a few of the Red Bull and a Fox trailers at the track.  It was kinda cool to feel like a pro arriving at the “location” with the big rigs the night before the event.  Since we were not going to be able to practice, we went and got some dinner then watched a movie and went to bed.

We woke up to Red Bull playing music and putting up their tents.  They had a huge tent with a lounge under it, a ton of bikes, food, and of course all the Red Bull you could want.

While they were setting up I got to lay in the lounge, sit on some of their bikes, talk to people from Red Bull, Fox, KTM, Motion Pro, etc.  And look how cool my bike looks in front of one of the KTM trucks.

The ride for the invited riders started around 10 and it was really fun to watch those guys rip.  The track started out very wet, but came in pretty fast.  It was fun to watch RONNIE RENNER, JESSY NELSON, and some of the guys that I know personally like, Dom Garman, Will Longo, Jeff Pestana, and Gary Plaatje.  Everyone was really fast, but Jessy Nelson……AMAZING!

After watching them ride all morning, it was finally time for the open ride day.  There had to be about 300 riders that showed up for the event, the place was packed.

They had set up banners and signs all over the track and a Red Bull tunnel to ride under.

This is how deep the ruts were that they left us……most of the time it was faster to rail around the outside, but I had to try the ruts they were using.  It was pretty cool.

I like this picture because you can see one of the Red Bull and Fox trucks and one of the Red Bull tents in the background.

It was a fun day, but by the end I was so tired.  A couple final pictures acting silly with my friends and one with Jessy Nelson, some free gifts from Ronnie Renner, Fox, Motion Pro, Red Bull, etc and we were on our way home.

THANKS 408MX AND RED BULL !

Sunday was Father’s Day and I want to thank my Dad for spending his day at the race track and helping me to race.  Both of my sisters were there and we had a lot of fun hanging out with Dad at the track.

My Dad worked hard all week to fix my 65′s after I destroying one bike at the last San Jose race the week before and the other one had problems during the week at practice.  Saturday when I went out for practice the bikes all worked great…..Thank You Dad!

This weekend was the last race of the CMC Series.  I was able to get some good starts and finish out front in both my 65 and 85 classes and finished all four races in 1st place.  After 7 rounds of races, at different tracks each weekend, I was able to maintain my lead and win the Championship in both classes.

I got 2 Series Championship Trophies and a couple FREE tires for my bikes, and some other fun prizes.

Now that the race series is over it is time to travel to different tracks to practice during the week and on long weekends.  It is time to get ready to race in Washington and at the Dodge Amateur Nationals….wish me luck!

Sunday is Father’s Day and I want to say THANK YOU to my Dad for all he does for me.

THE TOP 10 REASONS MY DAD IS THE BEST ARE:

  1. He always acts silly with me
  2. He plays Xbox with me even when he gets mad he doesn’t win
  3. He works on my dirt bikes
  4. He takes me dirt bike riding
  5. He helps me tease my Mom and my sister
  6. He takes me swimming
  7. He wrestles with me
  8. He buys me toys
  9. He takes me on bike rides
  10. He is proud of me for doing good in school

This weekend I had a race at 408 MX in San Jose.  We got to the track early Friday night and got a great spot right at the finish line.  All of my friends would come and go throughout the day and sit in the back of my trailer to watch the races.  When the action was over we all went inside the trailer and took turns playing xbox.  We also had fun riding the pit bikes, racing on our bicycles and playing with water guns.

Saturday practices went really well and I worked on clearing some of the big jumps at the track.  I stayed consistent and continued to improve on my lap times.  I really like riding at 408 had a lot of fun on the track.

Sunday I finished 1st on my 85 and was not able to finish my last 65 race.  I took a really hard fall over one of the triples and I hurt both myself and my bike.  I pulled a muscle in my neck that made it really painful to move my head from side to side.  On my bike my handlebars, rear shock, levers, and more was destroyed….not a good way to end the weekend.  :-(

This weekend I raced at the Hollister Hills Memorial Day MX Championship.  This is a three day format with practice on Saturday, a full round of racing on Sunday and another full round of racing on Monday.

This race is really fun because we get to see a lot of new riders that show up to race the big event and we get to ride more and camp for another day.  I raced in my normal 3 classes on Sunday (65 Novice, 65 Open, and 85 Beginner).  We had so many riders that I decided to race in 4 classes on Monday (50 Open, 65 Novice, 65 Open, and 85 Beginner)  That is a total of 14 races for the weekend.

Because of all the riders and having so many motos each day, the track was really tough both days.  In the morning it was really sandy/muddy and deep, and by the end of the day it was really dry with a ton of acceleration bumps and breaking bumps.  I had to stand up and stay on the gas to ride through it all….I love riding on big fast tracks like we had this weekend.

I finished 1st in my 65 Nov race and then had a problem with the pipe on my bike.  My Dad was able to switch the pipe from my other bike, but I lost some speed with the new pipe.  I had to really ride extra hard and keep my speed up as much as possible.

In the 65 Open race I finished a close 3rd to two very fast older riders.  It was really fun to be able to battle with them and push myself during the race.

Getting ready to start one of the 65 races

In the 85 race I pulled out a couple of 1st place finishes and also had my tire slide out in the deep sand in one turn.

Going down the 6 story elevator shaft in one of my 85 races

In my 50 race I had a lot of fun riding with my friends and getting back on my 50.  I rode really good and finished 1st.

In my 50 race I start on the wrong side of the gate from all the other riders.

I had a few of my friends that wanted to cheer me on and I didn’t want them to bother the other riders.

I won some big trophies, hats, riding gloves, and other cool prizes for winning.  Camping was a lot of fun!  I played Xbox, watched movies and rode bikes with all of my friends.

I can’t wait till the next race!

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY!

This weekend was super fun!  Saturday I went with my friend Justin and his Dad to see the pro’s race the first outdoor race at Hangtown in Sacramento.  I ride a lot on that track and it was so fun to see my favorite riders on one of my home tracks.

Sunday I woke up early and we picked up Justin to go riding at 408MX in San Jose.  Practice was sooo great!  I was riding really fast and clearing some really big jumps.

When we were done with practice…..My Dad and Mom took us to the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk to ride some rides.  Justin and I ran from one ride to another.  It wasn’t very crowded, we ran around for 4 hours and we had so much fun.

IT WAS SUCH A GREAT WEEKEND!

Now that one of the best supercross seasons is over….it is time to turn to the outdoor series.

-Check you local listing, schedule is subject to change.

Make sure you set your DVR to record all the action…If you get a chance to see the Pro’s race live, make sure you do it!  I love watching the races, meeting the riders, getting FREE stuff, and hanging with friends.

If my bike breaks down I give my Dad a hard time…..I call him a saboteur!  lol  So now my Dad makes me do some of the work.

Since it has been raining and I can’t go riding this week my Dad and I replaced the top end of the motor on my 65.  I took the top end off, cleaned all the surfaces, put on new gaskets, a new piston, and put it back together.  It was really cool to take the motor apart and then have is start right up after I put it back together.

This weekend we were RAINED OUT…… We were supposed to have a race at 408MX this weekend, but it was cancelled because of the expected rain.

All week I was excited about the race at 408 and I was very sad that it was cancelled.

Wednesday was my Mom’s Birthday and the family had cake for her.

My Mom loved having the family all together, so I did not go to practice.

On Thursday My Dad and I went to 408MX in San Jose.  It had been a long time since I had been to that track, so it was fun to work on the turns, jumps, and whoops.

On Saturday we decided to go to Hollister Hills MX track to practice.  Practice was fun!  The track was really sandy and I had to remember to ride my bike a little different than I usually do.  I don’t ride on thick sand very often, so it was really good practice.  Hollister has some really big table top jumps, about 70ft.  My friend and I were on our 65′s jumping one of the jumps at the same time, and his tire hit mine in the air and I went flying.  It was a hard fall from pretty high up, but I was ok.

I also like riding at Hollister because they have “The Elevator Shaft.”  It is so fast and fun!

.  I love going down the elevator shaft and jumping out the other side.

My Mom is the best….  she takes care of my sisters and me and is always there when we need her.  When I go to school, she makes my lunch and when I go racing she makes sure all my gear is ready.  My Mom works in my classroom at school each week and she plays dirt bikes with me after I finish my homework.  She is not very good at video games, but she plays with me anyway.  When I get hurt, she always makes me feel better and she always makes me laugh.

My Mom loves family pictures…..So my Dad and I found a few family pictures from the last couple of years that I know she loves.

I wrote earlier about WINNING THE HARD WAY when I raced at MMX in Marysville.  My friend Zach #19 and his family sent me the pictures and the video below of the crash I had on my 85.   Although I got a couple of bruises….I think it looks a little worse than it was.

After this fall, I got back on my bike and was able to chase everyone down to get back to the lead.

This last weekend I raced at Argyll MX in Dixon.

Practice on Saturday was a mess!  The wind was blowing so hard that is was difficult to see through the dust.  My allergies were really bad and the wind made it harder to jump and dried out the track sooooo bad.  The whole day was a mess.

Although Sunday was much better, it was still really bad.  My allergies were still bad and the track was not much better.  I tried to stay in the trailer all weekend, but my eyes were red and scratchy and my head was really congested.  Although they tried to water the track often, it stayed really dry all day and very slick.

When it came time to race, I road really fast but maybe a little to fast for the track conditions.  My bike slide out several times in the races and I was UP and Down several times in each race.  When I was up I was able to work through traffic and get to the lead, but I then fell and had to work back through the other riders again.  My biggest problem is that I can’t reach the ground on my bike so I can’t start it when I fall down.  Of course I fell each time at the farthest spot away from my Dad and getting my bike started took a long time.

On my 65cc bike I fell in both races but was still able to get 1st.  On my 85cc bike I was able to stay up for the whole first race but fell twice in the second race.  Out of 9 bikes I finished in 4th.

Below is a video of me in my first 85cc race….. you can see the track conditions, and in this race I was able to stay up for all 4 laps of racing.  YA

I had a race at MMX in Marysville this last weekend.

I love this track and always do well at MMX, but this weekend I did it the hard way….. MAKING A PASS ON MY 85

Saturday I took a hard fall on my 65 during the first round of practice.  Going over a jump I went into the air and I landed hard on my back.  I hurt my back and got the wind knocked out of me, but thanks to all of my safety gear I was OK.  I took the rest of the day off to rest my back and didn’t get any practice.

I woke up Sunday and was still sore, but I wanted to race.  By the time I got going, I missed a practice and it was time to go racing.  I was not 100% and I wasn’t able to practice with all the other kids, but I was ready to give it my all.

The first race was on my 65 and I was able to get the hole shot, but I went down in the whoop’s.  I was able to get up and get back to the lead and win the race.

The second race was the 85 race and I didn’t get the best start in that race.  I passed a couple bikes and when I was trying to pass another rider over a jump I crashed.  I went down hard but was able to get back up and race through traffic back to second place.

In the last races I was finally found my groove and was riding better.  I got good starts and raced up front the rest of the day.

WAITING FOR MY NEXT RACE

I HAD TO USE 5 GALLON GAS CANS AS MY STARTING BLOCKS!

A friend of my Dad’s let us use his Yamaha 85cc dirt bike.  My Dad picked it up Friday night and I rode it a couple of times Saturday at Club Moto in Livermore.  I love the bike, it is sooooo fun to ride.  On the last practice Saturday I was going over a jump and the chain broke off, the rear wheel locked up and I took a hard fall.  I was fine and I wanted to get back on the bike.

Sunday morning I talked my Mom and Dad into letting me try to race the bike.  As you can see by the picture I had to use gas cans as starting blocks and the other kids in my class were tall enough to hold up their bikes with no blocks.

I WAS THE SMALLEST KID OF ALL 8 RIDERS, NO ONE ELSE NEEDED BLOCKS!

In the first race, I rolled the clutch waiting for the gate to drop so I didn’t have a really good start.  I was in 7th place around the second turn and I worked hard to chase down the bikes in front of me.  I made a lot of passes and was chasing down the leader and was able to finish the race in 2nd place…..not bad for my second time on the bike.  :-)

The second race I had a better start, I got the hole shot and stayed out front the whole race.  I finished the race in 1st place and finished the day with a 1st place overall finish.

My Mom got mad at me because when I got the checkered flag I did a “no footer” over the finish line….I thought it was funny, but she didn’t.  lol

I also raced my KTM 65cc dirt bike and finished both of those races in 1st place.

The world’s largest and most prestigious amateur motocross racing program is the AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch in Tennessee.  The national qualifying program consists of 52 Area Qualifiers, and 12 Regional Championships, hosted at select motocross facilities across the country. The qualifying system all leads up to the National Final, the first week of August, hosted annually at the historic Loretta Lynn’s Ranch.  Nearly 25,000 racers attempt to qualify in 33 classes for the 1,400 available positions at the Nationals.  This National event serves as a launch pad for some of the biggest names in professional motocross and supercross, including Ricky Carmichael, James Stewart, Ryan Villopoto, and Ryan Dungey.

This last week was one of the area qualifier races in Marysville and riders travel from other states in hope to qualify for the Loretta Lynn race.

Thursday night, March 31st, we loaded up the trailer and headed to Marysville for a shot at qualifying for this race.  We arrived late and went straight to bed to get rest for the Friday practice.  When I woke up Friday morning, April 1st, I told my Dad that I was not feeling well and I thought that I had the flu so we should go home…….APRIL FOOL’S!  I was excited to practice and see what other racers would be at the event.  Practice went well all day Friday and I was able to play with my friends Friday night and rest for the big Saturday race.

First Race 50cc:  I had a really good start and got the Hole Shot.  On the second lap I had a really hard fall and had a hard time getting my bike re-started.  By the time I got my bike going, I was really far behind and road like crazy to try to catch up with the other riders that had passed me.  With only two turns left in the race, I was able to pass the last bike and I was able to finish in 1st Place.  (Ya….that was a close one!)

Second Race 65cc:  My 65cc race was right after the previous 50cc race and I was soooooo tired and a little wounded.  We had several riders from other areas that were really fast, and they combined the younger and older kids together to make for a really large race.  I didn’t get the best start because I got pushed out by another rider.  I was in the middle of the pack and was able to work past a few riders.  I fell over in the deep sand section and lost a couple of spots, but I was able to get my bike up pretty quickly.  I had to ride hard again to work my way back up to 5th place.

Third Race 50cc:  I had a long break before my third race, so I was well rested and ready to go.  I was able to get the hole shot again and I stayed up this time for another 1st place finish (I finished 1st overall and qualified for Loretta Lynn’s)

Fourth Race 65cc:  For the second 65cc race I had a bumpy start off the gate and again had to work my way through traffic.  I was able to muscle my bike through the sand section better in this race, but definitely don’t have the same strength that the older kids showed going through the sand.  I was able to work through the bikes and finished in 4th place. (I finished 4th overall and qualified for Loretta Lynn’s)

It was a great weekend and I was so excited to do so well at my first Loretta Lynn’s qualifier!

I got a #1 number plate/plaque for winning….it is way cool!

It has been raining a lot on and off and I have not been able to ride.  A couple of weeks ago we had a small break in the rain and I was able to race in the Monster Energy Road to Mammoth Qualifier race at Oatfield Raceway.  The sun was out and the track started out really good.  By the end of the afternoon the track got really rough and bumpy.

It was really fun to be back at the race track and racing with a lot of my friends.  There was a lot of riders at the event because it was a qualifying race and the weather was perfect.  I was able to qualify 1st in both of my 50cc classes and 2nd in my 65cc class.  With the great finishes I had, I was able to qualify for the Road to Mammoth Race that is heald June 16 – 26th.

The Road to Mammoth race began in 1968 when Don Rake and some friends decided to put on a motocross race in Mammoth Lakes, California.  They built a world-class track 8,000 feet up in the Sierra Nevada Mountain range.  It is the oldest continuous running motocross event in the USA.  The track has changed a little over the years, but is brings in many great riders every year.  Riders like Ricky Carmichael, Jeremy McGrath, Rick Johnson, Johnny O’Mara, Broc Glover, Donny Schmitt, Steve Lamson, Gary Jones, Kevin Windham, David Bailey, Jeff Ward, Ron Lechien, Bob Hannah, James Stewart, Mike Bell, Donny Hansen and many more.

It has become one of the major amateur events in the country and a great event to see riders of tomorrow racing at Mammoth today.

The last week and a half has been very crazy in my house.  It all started when my Sister Hailey had a pain in her stomach last Thursday that was so bad she had to go to the hospital.  For the first two days the doctors thought my sister needed her appendix removed, but after further test they found she had an infection in her stomach.  Hailey was in the hospital until Tuesday night then she came home to recover.  While Hailey was in the hospital I got sick with the flu.  I have had a fever that has been up and down and achy all over.  Now My body feels a little better, but I have a cough.  My doctor was concerned because this is the second time I have been sick in the last month so I had to do some blood work to make sure everything is ok.   On Monday, while my sister and I were down my Dad had his surgery to fix his shoulder and his wrist.  This injury came from the bike accident my Dad and I had last year in Washington see the more at Cleared To Race Post.  My Mom was bouncing from Hailey’s hospital (Walnut Creek), to my Dad’s hospital (Pleasanton) to me at home (Discovery Bay.)  We have been a mess!  My sister is doing better, but I think I gave the flu to my Dad…..sorry Dad.  My Sister Elyssa and my Grandma and Grandpa helped my Mom take care of all of us, it was a family effort.

PLAYING IN THE SAND

Posted: February 21, 2011 in Uncategorized

The rain lifted for a few days….so we decided to practice at MMX on Sunday.  Since it is a sand track, it was OK that the track was a little wet.  The sun was out and it was a good day to ride.

When we arrived, both of my 65 bikes did not want to run right.  My Dad started working on both bikes and had a hard time trying to fix them.  I was able to practice on my 50 bikes while he worked on the 65′s.  After a few hours my Dad was able to fix the problems and I was able to practice on the 65 as well.

While I waited for my turn to ride my friend Justin and I made a dirt bike track in the parking lot.  It was a really fun day!

Don’t forget that this weekends AMA Supercross race will be televised live.  In the 17 round AMA Supercross series, we are already a third of the way through.  The top 10 riders have been battling each week with some great riding and big crashes along the way.  Ryan Villopoto and James Stewart have traded the lead back and forth.  The top 10 riders as of February 19, 2011 is: 1.Ryan Villopoto  132, 2. James Stewart  123, 3.Trey Canard  112, 4.Chad Reed  105, 5.Ryan Dungey  101, 6.Andrew Short  80, 7.Brett Metcalfe  80, 8.Justin Braden  65, 9.Davi Millsaps  62, 10.Kevin Windham  61.

It has been raining all week and it looks like it is going to continue raining.  :-(   I can’t wait for the sun to come back and dry out the tracks so I can get back to racing.  While we are waiting for the sun my Dad has been cleaning and servicing the bikes.

With no racing to report….I thought I would share some of my silly pictures with you:

This weekend we decided to go to the E-Street race at Hangtown.  Since the track was not open Friday night for camping, we got up early Saturday morning and headed out to Hangtown.   I had a black eye from a fall I had taken from practice during the week.  It was a little fall, but my goggles hit my eye and left it bruised and swollen.

Practice on Saturday went well on both the 50 and 65.  After practice my family went on a ride in my sister, Hailey’s, polaris.  I walked the track with my Mom and she had a hard time climbing to the top of some of the jumps…..it was so funny.  I rode my bike around with some of my fiends and then my family watched a movie.

We got up early Sunday and got ready to go racing.  The first round of races went really well and I finished 1st in my 65 race and both of my 50 races.  The second round I started on my 50 and I was about a half a lap in the lead and my bike stopped going and was making a really bad sound.  The rear sprocket had been sheered off the rear wheel and the chain was just spinning.  Even though it was a DNF, my family was so happy that I was riding so well.  The last two races of the second round I finished both with strong first place finishes.

Last Wednesday I told you I was sick, and I was sooooo sick!

Even with medication, I had a fever all day on Wednesday and didn’t wake up the whole day and night.  Thursday my fever was down a little, but I still laid on the coach and slept all day.  Thursday night I started coughing and Friday when I woke up my throat was on fire.  Since I didn’t eat anything on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday it was time to go to the doctor.  I found out that I had a cold that turned into Strep Throat.  I started taking my medicine and was able to start eating on Saturday.  On the road to recovery!

On Saturday night our friends called and said that there was a race at Carnegie and they had a few riders.  Even though I was not 100% (actually not 50%) and I didn’t get to practice on Saturday with everyone else, I would go and just get a little seat time.

We showed up on Sunday and the day was beautiful and sunny out.  I raced for most of the day and did really well, but I was soooooo tired.  The track got really rough and I was having a hard time holding on.  I did get a couple first place finishes and a couple of second place finishes.  We did not stay till the end of the day and I missed my last race, but I got some really good practice in.

When I got home I was sooooo hungry and tired.  I ate some mac-n-cheese, watched the Supercross race and the Super Bowl and went to bed early.  I can’t wait till I am all better!

Our pictures are just in from DC Shoes at the Oakland Supercross 2011…..

Who do you think did the best trick?

I think I should get extra style points, but I can’t believe my Sister, Mom, and Dad even did it.

So much fun!  Thank you DC Shoes!

IS RIDING SICK MY THING?

Last night I went riding at 408 MX in San Jose.  The track was really bad, but I had so much fun!  I worked on some jumps and some corners and had fun riding around with my friends.

After practice we had a long ride home.  I put on a movie and was relaxing while we were sitting in traffic.  Half way home I started to feel achy.  By the time we got home I was feeling really bad and couldn’t wait to go to bed.  I woke up around 11pm and I was on fire.  My Mom gave me some medicine and I just couldn’t get comfortable.  My Dad left for work at 3am and I was still awake.  Just a little bit after that I got sick and was up in the bathroom for another hour.  I have been sick with a fever all night.  YUK!

How did I ride good when I was getting so sick?  Maybe that is my thing.  :-)   Hope I feel better soon so I can get back on my bike!

JUMPING IN SAN JOSE

SICK WITH A FEVER A FEW HOURS LATER

Saturday we went to Supercross and it was so much fun!

We got to the pits early and I was so excited to see everyone.  I saw all my friends that I race with and all of  the pro riders.  We saw my good friend Rodney Smith (5-time Brazilian Motocross Champion, 5-time AMA Enduro champion, 2-time AMA Hare Scramble Champion, 2-time ISDE Gold Medalist, and 5-time GNCC Champion.)  Rodney invited my family into the THOR/PARTS UNLIMITED VIP Tent.  It was so nice of him and it was totally cool.  Rodney introduced me to the people from Thor and Parts Unlimited and they were so nice.  It was such an amazing thing to be able to do and it was all thanks to Rodney.  While I was in the Thor tent we got to see Ryan Villopoto, Jake Weimer, Josh Hansen, Broc Tickle, Tylar Rattray, and more.

I got to take a picture next to the number 71 bike……I can’t wait until that is my bike!

After hanging out in the pits for several hours it was time to go watch some racing.  The track was so crazy.  It was a tight track with some really big jumps.  I couldn’t believe it started raining….really?  We were lucky that my Dad had huge garbage bags in the trunk of his car to help keep us dry.  We all looked stupid, but not as stupid as the people that were wet and cold.

For a little while we could see a rainbow above the track.

My Mom and I went back into the pits right after they were closed and we were able to talk with a lot of the riders one on one.  I got a lot of autographs and James Stewart’s gloves.  We went back out to watch the races and they were awesome.  Because it was raining outside the track was wet and slippery and made for really good racing!

Friday was my swim party and it was sooooo cool!  It was foggy outside and about 45 degrees and we were going swimming.  We had the whole pool, play area and club to ourselves.

My friends showed up and we started playing in the play structure.  We all ran around and played air hockey, wall ball, sat in the movie theatre, ran through the play structure, and ran all around the place.

We ate pizza and got changed to go swimming.  The pool was so much fun and the water was very warm.  I think everyone had fun!  I want to thank all my friends and family that were able to come to my party and share the fun with me.

We went to MMX this weekend because they had a race there on Sunday.  I practiced on Saturday and had a really great time riding with all my friends.  I was able to practice my 65cc bike with the 85cc kids and my 50cc bike with the 65cc kids.  I had some great battles and the track was great!  My Grandma and Grandpa came to watch me ride and I made them nervous.  My sisters were there watching and we got to go on rides in the Polaris.

On Sunday they didn’t have any kids signed in to race so instead of racing I went to E-Street to practice.  They didn’t have many riders there, but I got a lot of riding time on the track and had a lot of fun.

On January 18th I had my 8th birthday…. After a three-day weekend, I had school that day.   I woke up to my Mom and my sister singing Happy Birthday to me.  Soon after that my Dad, my other sister and my Grandparents called to sing to me.  My Grandma and Grandpa took me out to breakfast and I picked to go to McDonalds.  My Mom got me Subway for lunch and it was so delicious.  My family, my grandparents, and my Aunt and Uncle came over for cake and presents.  I got a new helmet, a huge toy dirt bike, a DS and some games, cash and a new dirt bike.  It was such a great day!

I still have more birthday fun coming.  I am going to MMX to practice on Saturday and I get to see all my friends.

A week after that I am having a swim party at an indoor pool for a bunch of my friends.  Then the Saturday after that I get to go to see Supercross.  This is a good Birthday Month!

FAMILY CAMPING TRIP

I am sure you are wondering from the last post if I was able to practice on Thursday.  After not being able to practice on Tuesday, and Wednesday, we tried again on Thursday.  Everything was good until Noon when it started raining…..No practice again.  At least it started raining before my Mom loaded up the bikes this time.

This last weekend we decided to finally take the trailer out and go camping.  Since we got our new trailer we still had not taken it camping and even slept in it yet.  We loaded up the whole family, My Mom and Dad, Elyssa, Hailey, me and the dog and we left.  We had so much fun from start to finish, it is always an adventure when our family goes anywhere and this time was no different.  I rode my bike a little and Hailey drove her Polaris around.  We watched movies together and definitely used the heater a lot.  When I woke up in the morning the dog and I jumped into Hailey’s bed and it wasn’t long until Elyssa joined us for a tickle fight.  It was so fun!

Can’t wait for this week……Tuesday the 18th is my Birthday.

  www.hcrproducts.com

It has been difficult this week to get out and practice but it has not been from lack of trying.  Tuesday my Mom loaded up the bikes and we were going to go ride at Sand Hill which is right down the street.  The weather said we had a 40% chance of rain after 5:00.  We figured we could ride for a couple of hours and then stay a little and have fun in the rain for a little longer and go home.  On our way to the track it started sprinkling and it was only 2:30.  We kept going thinking the rain would just pass by and we would be in the clear still till 5:00.  The windshield wipers were on and we didn’t see any break in the sky at all.  By the time we were close to the tracks we could see puddles on the side of the road and knew that we should turn back and go home.  We unloaded everything and figured we would try on Wednesday.

Wednesday we were going to go to Club Moto to practice.  My Mom loaded up the bikes again, picked up my sister and I,  and my Dad was going to meet us there on his way home from work.  Half way through Vasco the truck was smelling really bad and then started smoking.  We pulled over and my Mom could see that some liquid had been blown all over the engine – not good.  We were stuck on the side of the road until my Dad could come and see if it was fixable.  We were so close to the track we were thinking that maybe friends could pick us up on their way to the track and my Mom could stay and wait for a tow truck if we needed to….I was ready to get to the track.  At this point it was starting to get late and we could tell that going riding was out again.  My Dad showed up and found that it was diesel fuel that was blowing out through one of the injector lines.  We called AAA to come pick us up and got ahold of our friend Mark who said he would pick up the part for us on his way home from work.  The tow truck showed up and they brought the wrong kind of truck.  They said they would put a call in for a different tow truck and again we were waiting on the side of the road.  Three hours later Mark was driving home with the part and my Dad fixed the truck and drove it home.  My Dad can fix anything with a wrench and a wire.  :-)   Thank you Mark, we might still be on the side of the road if it wasn’t for you.

Now it is Thursday and it is calling for small showers………Do we even try to go riding?

Mom made us sit in the truck with our seatbelts on the whole time.  Uggh

I wanted to stay up all night to bring in the new year.  I played yatzee and watched movies with the family and fell asleep on the coach at 11:45.  My Mom woke me up just before midnight so I didn’t miss anything.  HAPPY NEW YEAR!

It rained all weekend and I have been waiting to get out and go riding.  The weather looks like it will start to clear up and we can begin the winter racing season.  My first race will be this weekend in Livermore at Club Moto.  I am hoping to be able to get out and practice at least one day this week.  I will practice all day Saturday in Livermore to get ready for the Sunday race.  I am hoping to go to some new tracks this winter and have fun getting ready for summer races.

Wish me luck!

With all the rain, I have not been able to get out and go riding.  I have been hanging with friends and playing with all the new stuff I got from Christmas.  What a great Christmas!

My family got tons of great things.  I got some dirt bike toys, some bicycle flip tricks, new Diary of a Wimpy Kid books, clothes, FMF jacket, and remote control toys.  Thank you to everyone.  I also got a new tool box and frig that fits perfectly in my “man cave.”

After we were done with all the gifts under the tree, my parents had one more surprise for the family.  We first had to go on a scavenger hunt.  Each clue lead us to another clue that lead us to another one and so on.  The hunt ended on the front porch, but the next game was just beginning.  Each of us now had to follow our colored yarn through the neighbor’s yard and down the street until we found the end.  The game started off fun, but I very quickly got tired and just wanted to see what was at the end…it was worth the wait.  At the end of my string was a new 18″ custom pink bicycle, it is so awesome!

GOODBYE NICK!

My new brother-in-law Nick has joined the Army and left for boot camp December 28th.  We got to go see him get sworn into the Army and watch him leave, it was very official and totally cool.  He will be in Missouri for about 9 weeks and we can’t even talk to him on the phone.  After he gets settled we should be able to get his address and send him letters but that is it.  I am really going to miss him and can’t wait till he gets home.  The whole family is very proud of him and really excited for him to come back home.

Although we DVR all the races, It is always really cool to see the event live when the pro’s are in town.  I have been very lucky to meet all my favorite riders.  When we go to the Supercross and Motocross races I love going into the pits and talking to the riders, they have been so nice.  I can’t wait until it is me and all of you come to see me ride and are watching me on TV.  Thought you might like to see a few pictures of my time in the pits at the last few races I went to.

GRADUATION DAY

This weekend my sister Elyssa graduated from college.  She went to Sacramento State University and we went to her graduation ceremony.  The whole family screamed so loud when they called her name, and my sister Hailey had a really load air horn.  When we saw her after I sprayed her with silly string, it was totally cool.

I can’t believe she doesn’t have to go to school anymore….she is so lucky.

The whole family was so proud of her and everyone was so happy.  Way to go Elyssa!!!

This is a great video of a 65cc race at Oatfield Raceway in Turlock.  9 Bikes went out in the first gate and I was in the second gate with 7 other bikes.

I got a great start and was able to get the hole shot and stay out front.  You will see me passing some bikes, but these are kids not racing in my class.

On the second lap I took a hard fall.  By the time I was able to get up and get my bike going the second and third place riders were able to catch me and took over the lead.

On the third and fourth laps the yellow bike #10, Jeremy Ryan, and I battled back and forth several times for the lead.

On the fifth and final lap I was able to walk away with the win.

It was a great battle, and you will be able to see that the track was really rough.  What a fun race!

Back in school from the Thanksgiving Holiday and back to a routine.  It is a little hard to plan to far in advance when I am going dirt bike riding, because it really depends on the rain.  :-(   It seems like when I think I might go riding it is raining or has rained too much to go.  How much longer till summer time?

I got my report card from school.  My parents were so happy with me because I am doing very good in school.  They like it when my homework is all turned in and I get good grades on my math, and my spelling is getting better (no spell check in class).  My family is also very happy with my behavior in class.  I got really good marks and my teacher told them that I am good in class. Yah!  Over break the family went bowling to celebrate my great report card……Hailey won, but I came in second.

My teacher recommended I start reading Diary Of A Wimpy Kid books.  I don’t really like to read a lot, unless it is about a dirt bikes, but this book was really good.  I could not put the book down and I had to keep reading to see what was going to happen next.

As you can see….the book is really funny and I can totally relate….. :-)

A dirt bike frame is made of “Chromoly” tubing.  (Chromoly is like steel on steroids.  It contains Chromium and molybdenum a splash of carbon and mostly iron).  A dirt bike frame is the main component of a dirt bike that the wheels and engine and other components are fitted on.  The frame design for a dirt bike consists of triangles holding the main support of the bike.  The triangle shape is used for extra strength and support.  The dirt bike suspension (front forks and rear spring) also absorb the impact when I jump.  My bikes are made with extra stong metal, we have the best suspension, and is constructed to withstand impact.  My Dad and Grandpa have added extra support pieces to ensure that my bikes are as safe as possible for me.

Although the bikes are made with the best metal and designed with jumping in mind, this one did not make it.  I wonder if the builder knows how much I ride these bikes and how far I jump?  I am so lucky it did not break as I was in the air, I would have had an extra hard landing!    :-(

My Dad had some advice for me…..maybe I should not jump 70 foot triples.

I had some advice for Dad….buy some extra bike frames!

I had no school on Thursday and Friday which gave me a four-day weekend.  HAPPY VERTERANS DAY!

Thursday I went practicing in San Jose at 408MX.  The track was really good and some of my friends were there and we all had a really good time racing each other.

Friday my Mom took me bowling.  It was sooo much fun!  My Dad and I were watching TV last week and a bowling commercial came on and I told my Dad we should go bowling soon.  My Dad told my Mom and she took me.  We had so much fund…..and I won.  When we came home we collared pictures and watched a movie.

Saturday we went racing in Turlock at Oatfield Raceway.  I love this track, but it was a little tough for me this time.  I picked up some speed, but I had a hard time keeping it on two wheels.  The track had a ton of ruts and breaking bumps and my bikes were all over the place.  In one race I got a bad start and was in last…..I raced through traffic and made it into first…..I crashed hard and by the time I got going again I was in last…..I raced back to first again….I crashed again and finished in last.  I made the day really hard for myself, because I kept falling and had to keep chasing everyone down.  I raced 50 open and finished with a 2nd, 65 age I finished 2nd and 65 open I finished 5th.  I rode really good, but did not have the best luck.  It was a really fun day!

Sunday I helped my Dad clean the bikes and run some errands around town.  We had a fun boys day.

Now it is back to school.  :-(

HERE COMES THE BRIDE

Friday November 5th my big sister, Elyssa, got married.  Elyssa got married to Nick who is a really nice guy and always plays video games and ball with me.  I held the rings for them and everything was really nice, I even wore a tie.  My sister Hailey was the maid of honor and the wedding had  a purple theme.  We went to Nick’s parents house after the ceremony to have a toast before dinner, and I was able to play with his little dog – Mickey.  The reception was at Scott’s Seafood in Walnut Creek and everything was very fancy.  Although dinner was good, I couldn’t wait for cake time.  Congrats to Elyssa and Nick Bugnatto……Love you guys!

Don’t we all look great!

Now you can see what I see…..We just got a helmet camera that records when I am going around the track.  This will help us to review things on the track and help me go faster.  This is also a really good way for you to see what it is like to ride on the track like I do.  This is the first video we did just to try out the helmet cam and see what you think.

This is my 65 practice at Hollister Hills, you can get an idea of how fast I ride, how far I jump, and even a small crash.

www.hcrproducts.com

I know that my family and friends are sometimes scared when I race my dirt bike (especially Grandma.)  Many people wonder what kind of safety equipment I wear since I know I will be falling.

I looked on-line and found the top 5 most dangerous extreme sports….don’t look Grandma.

  1. Ultimate Fighting
  2. Base Jumping
  3. Bull Riding
  4. Motocross Riding
  5. Cave Diving

Even before we knew that motocross was number 4 on the list my Mom and Dad always spend the most money on my safety equipment.  They always buy me the best and as soon as something is worn a little they replace it to make sure that I am always 100% protected.

.

.

.

.

.

HELMET:  A helmet should fit snuggly and be lightweight, but be rated properly.  The helmet is one item that I replace often.  Whenever I take a hard fall, or several small falls, my parents replace my helmet.  This is the one item that is hard to know if it is still protecting you.  A helmet could show no sign of damage and have been compromised because of an impact and not working.  It is better to be safe than sorry, so always replace the helmet after an impact.

NECK COLLAR:  Several different neck collars are available and it is important to find something that works with your body.  I us an EVS neck brace that is soft around my neck but supports my helmet and shoulders.  The neck collar should work with your helmet and chest protector…these three items are the most important to protect against head, neck and back injuries.

CHEST PROTECTOR:  My chest protector has changed since I started riding.  When I first started riding I wore the standard plastic protector that covers your chest and rib cage.  These protectors do help against impact, but they have side and arm straps that can be very dangerous.  In one of my races I got together with another bike and the strap from my chest protector was caught on the other bike and I was drug down the track.  When that happened we looked into other alternatives and found that “bull riding vests” protect the body much better without straps.  These vests are very hard and wrap the entire upper body also protecting your sides, which the others do not do.

KNEE PADS:  Knee pads are very important.  When I first started riding I had little knee pads that only protected my knee cap and every time I fell on them they would slide up my knee.  Just recently my knees have been bothering me and I was getting a lot of bruises on the side of my leg.  We just invested in some really tough pads that also brace the side of my knee.   Having anything on is helpful and does take some of the initial impact away from your knee, but it is important that they are protect also against side impact.  My current knee pads have a bar on each side of my knee and they go up high on my thigh and into my boot for almost a full leg protection.  Since I have started using these knee pads, I have not had any more bruises on my legs.

BOOTS:  It is important to have good fitting motocross boots.  I know some parents buy kids shoes a little big because they grow so fast.  It is important to have your motocross boots fit correctly.  A boot that is too big won’t provide enough ankle support and it will be hard for the rider to use the shifter and rear brake levers.  Right now I am wearing Oneal Monster boots, but I will be getting new boots soon.

RIDING SOCKS:  When you wear riding boots and knee pads, your legs and feet would be really sore without the proper socks.  I wear two kinds of socks together to protect my feet and legs.  I have long socks that go high on my leg just over the top of my knee.  I then put on a second sock that has no feet that goes from my calve to my upper thigh.

RIDING PANTS:  Most dirt bike riders wear “in the boot” riding pants, however I like the “over the boot” pants.  This is just a personal choice and both pants work the same.  Riding pants a sturdy and tear resistant and come with hip pads that cushion the hip bones during a crash.  Because these pants are thick, in most cases they protect the rider against the mud, dirt, and weather.

JERSEY:  Motocross Jerseys are also worn with protection in mind.  Most jerseys have padded elbows that allow additional protection.  The jersey helps protect against small scratches and scrapes and is a great base for all of the protection equipment we put on top.

ELBOW PADS:  Elbow pads can be worn under a jersey or on top of the jersey…I wear mine on top.  Elbow pads are not very big and do move around when you crash.  The idea of the elbow pad is to protect the elbow against the initial impact of a fall.  I often get scratches on my arm and elbow when I crash, but the initial impact is absorbed with the pad and it is made to move as I do to help prevent serious injury.

GLOVES:  Gloves protect your hands and help when trying to hold on to the bike.  It is important to pick gloves that don’t have excess room in the finger tips and are comfortable.

GOGGLES:  When you choose goggles, you must have your helmet with you.  Goggles fit differently with the helmet and it is important to have a comfortable fit that protects you.  The goggles should fit snuggly leaving no gaps for dirt or rocks to slip through.  I have a little bit of a hard time with that because I have a little nose that usually allows a little bit of dirt to sneak through.  Along with goggles, I have to also say Tear Offs.  When I am racing other bikes often throw dirt in my face, I put tear off’s on my lenses to easily remove the dirt.

Safety gear is not cheap, but very important.  When you are riding fast and racing against other people, falls and crashes are going to happen and my parents do their best to protect me.  After this crash below, I got up and finished the race….thanks to my safety gear!

The seventh rounds of the 2010 CMC Transcal finished up this weekend with a two-day race.  What a weekend!

Saturday we raced in the rain…  It was cold, cloudy and windy with small showers throughout the day.  Towards the end of the day the clouds broke, but the rain kept coming and while I was racing the track had a huge rainbow over it.  I raced three classes (6 races) and finished 1st in each race.

Sunday the weather was completely different, what a difference a day makes.  The morning started out with so much fog, I couldn’t see the track from the parking lot.  By the time races started the sun was out and we finished out the day hot.  On Sunday I decided to race four classes (8 races) because I also wanted to race the 65cc Open class.  I was able to finish out the day without any crashes and ended with all four 1st place finishes.

Since this was the last race of the series we also received our series awards.  Out of all the 49 classes that were run by people from the age of 4 to 50+, I was the only person to win 3 Championships.  I received 3 end of the series trophies, 3 new pairs of goggles, a Fox shirt, a mechanics apron, tie downs, a lanyard, and….a New BMX Bike!  I was so excited, I can’t wait to get my new BMX Bike in the mail. :-)

So I finished up the weekend with 10 1st place trophies some goodies, a new bike, and Trick-or-Treating.  I have to admit the trick-or-treating was not as long as I usually go…..I was too tired.

I want to thank my Dad for all the work he does on my bikes every day and everything he does for me at each race.  My Dad gives me bikes that are always working at their best to help me win races.  I would also like to thank my Mom and Sister for being at every race and helping me with all my gear and tips throughout the races.  Also a big thanks to Grandma & Grandpa for being my biggest cheerleaders.

Now all I need is some sponsors!  :-)

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Friday I was able to wear my costume to school and walk in the parade and have a party in class.  We had a fun day getting ready for Halloween.  After school we came home and carved pumpkins.  It was such a mess and soo much fun!

We have a busy Halloween weekend.  Saturday I have a race in Dixon and Sunday I have a second race at Dixon.  These are the last two races of the series.  After the Sunday race, we will hurry home to go trick-or-treating.  I am going to be an Evil Jester.

TRICK – OR – TREAT !

www.hcrproducts.com

BUMPS:  Monday night my Mom twisted her ankle and is not supposed to walk on it for a couple of weeks.  When she fell, the first thing I did was run to the freezer and get the bag of frozen corn to help her feel better.  That is what my Mom always does when I get hurt and she was so happy I was there to help her.  My Dad, Sister and I have been trying to help around the house but it has been hard to make Mom sit down.  I hope Mom feels better soon!

THE BLUES:  Wednesday was a “blue” day.  Everyday at school we start with our names on Green and we can move up or down the color chart depending on classroom behavior.  Blue is the highest you can go and I have gotten blue twice this week already.  My Mom and Dad love when I do good in school and they were so excited I got Blue today.

BIKES:  Wednesday I practiced at Club Moto.  The track was a little hard to ride on because they brought in a lot of sand and it had not yet been worked in.  I love practice days because I get to race against bigger bikes and older boys.  Although most of them are much older (over 14 years old) and the bikes have bigger motors than mine, I work really hard to hold them off as long as I can and race them as they pass me…..I try not to let them have an easy pass on me.  I thought you might like to see a couple of videos of practice.  Even though the track was a little rough and I did fall down (7:00 of first video on my 50cc bike), you can get the idea of how practice goes.

Last weekend our race was cancelled because of the rain, but I hope we get to race this weekend.  Keep your fingers crossed.  :-)

Many people often wonder what the difference is between SUPERCROSS and MOTOCROSS.  Even though they look the same, they have many differences and most dirt bike riders often choose one or the other when racing.

Motocross racing was developed first and it takes place in outdoor venues.  The track sizes vary, but many tend to be around one or two miles long.  The tracks most commonly include large hills, different size jumps, irregular right and left hand turns, and other obstacles that require gear changes.  Because of the large track layout, motocross races allow for larger class sizes and very high-speed riding.  Motocross tracks can usually be found in rural or country locations and it is sometimes difficult for spectators to see the entire track from one location.  Motocross tracks usually use the dirt on the ground and bring in additional dirt to build jumps, because of the high-speed and large class sizes motocross tracks usually get large breaking  bumps and become rutted up throughout the day.

Supercross is conducted on a specially constructed dirt race track usually within a stadium style facility.  The man-made tracks are created to duplicate similar racing conditions found in outdoor motocross racing in a smaller venue.  The length of the course is dependant on the size of the facility used.  Supercross tracks are usually easier for spectators to see the entire course, but the number of riders are usually limited because of the smaller track size.  Because the track is much smaller, you have less speed coming into the jumps.  The jumps are constructed with a sharp take off which will project you higher than the motocross track that projects you further.

So the weather changed our plans this weekend.  We did practice on Wednesday at club Moto and Thursday at Argyll in Dixon.  The two-day race at Argyll was re-scheduled for next weekend because of rain.  Since I was going to have the weekend off from racing,  I thought I could get a little more riding in before the rain came…..not exactly.  I decided to race Friday night at Sacramento Raceway, but the race was in the rain.  I had never been to the Sacramento Raceway and it was very different from what I usually ride.  The track was more of a supercross track, a lot slower than I am used to and more technical.  The race started at 6pm and we raced under the lights in the rain.  I was able to show up at this track and get two 1st place trophies and a 2nd place trophy.  It was a lot of fun, but the race went until late.  My friend Brandon #19 went with us to the track and spent the night at my house after.  We were so tired!

Saturday my Dad and I cleaned the bikes and worked to get them ready for next week.  The family went out for pizza and went to the end of Booville.  Sunday My Mom and sisters went shopping and my Dad, Nick and I had a boys day of playing ball, XBOX, and raced dirt bikes.  We had a family night of playing games, wrestling, making cookies, and watching TV.

www.hcrproducts.com

Last night I practiced at Club Moto in Livermore.  We worked on a few new things and tried a new suspension.  The new suspension was awesome!  It was so different…..I was able to jump higher and further off the jumps and come out of the corner faster.  With the new suspension every time I landed or went over the bumps the bike just sat down and went, I was not getting bounced forward.  What a difference!  I did have one hard fall in the first round of practice.  I was on my old bike and the track was really bad.  I went over a bump going up hill and just got thrown out….the bike and I went tumbling a few times and I landed right on my butt cheek.  I got a little scratch on my arm, but I really hurt my butt, ouch!

Tonight I am going to practice in Argyll MX in Dixon.  This weekend we have a two-day race at the Dixon track.  Instead of practice on Saturday and race on Sunday like most race weekends, this weekend we have a full race day on Saturday and another one on Sunday.  Sunday is the finale of this CMC Spring series and the points from all seven races of the last races will be added up to crown a champion.  I have been working really hard this series to keep my points up to try to win the championship, so keep your fingers crossed and wish me luck!

www.hcrproducts.com

I have been “banned……..from writting about dirt bikes” in school.  My teacher told me that I had to write my stories about something other than dirt bikes…..what?  I was so upset about being banned.  Even though all my stories are about dirt bikes, I write about different race tracks and about my different dirt bikes, it’s not always the same story.

I really like my teacher and I know she is just trying to help me learn new things!  She lifted the ban and said I could write about dirt bikes only one day a week….I guess that is better than never.  I am not really good at new things, I think it will take some time to get used to…  :-(

www.hcrproducts.com

This last weekend I raced in Marysville at the MMX Track.  I love this track because it is a wide track that allows you to go really fast.  The track is very sandy with wide sweeping turns so you can keep your speed up through most of the track.  I love going fast!

Saturday was practice and I worked all day to find the fastest way around the track.  The last practice of the day I took a really hard fall.  As I was going over the long table top I landed sideways and went down so hard I broke my helmet.  Thanks to Dylan #123, he loaned me a helmet to be able to continue riding….. I guess first thing this week we will have to go buy a new helmet.

Sunday the races started and so did the rain.  The day started mild, but as we went through the races, the rain started coming down hard.  By the end of the day the track was really wet and a little tricky to ride.  I worked really hard and was able to finish up the weekend with a 1st place in all six races…..YA!!!  what a weekend.

I have attached a video, but it is not the best…..  It was really windy and it is hard to see the whole track.  I know a lot of you like to see what the different tracks look like, and this will give you an idea of the layout.  This is the 1st 50cc race.  They had two gates with the beginner kids leaving in the second gate.  towards the end of the video you will see me passing some of the riders from that class.

I have been asked a lot, “Is it really you on your blog?”  Although it takes the whole family to put the site together, YES….IT IS ME!

Friends and family help with blog ideas and then we discuss them at home.  My Mom does do all of the typing, but we work together on what to say.  It is so much fun being able to keep everyone informed with what is going on in my life, and I am so happy that so many people are taking the time to read it.  I think I might be able to count these blogs as reading time for school…..what do you think?

If you have any blog suggestions, please let us know.

Last night I practiced at 408MX in San Jose.  I had not been there in a really long time, and it was really hot.  I had such a great practice, I was really feeling it!

Tonight I am practicing at Club Moto in Livermore and we are racing in Marysville this weekend.  I hope things go as good as they did last night.  Wish me luck!

Below is a video of my first 65cc race at Chico Cycleland on 10-10-10.  In this race they had two gates, and  I was in the second gate.  I was able to get the hole- shot and stay in 1st throughout the race.  As you will see in the video I was able to catch up and pass riders from the first gate.

October 10th was the CMC race at Chico Cycleland.  We went to Chico Friday night, practiced all day Saturday and raced Sunday.  The Chico race track is not like most tracks I race on.  At Chico it is much slower and tighter than I am used to, more like a supercross track than a motocross track.

The first three races of the day went great, (50cc age, 50cc open, and 65cc age)!  I started all three of these races in first or second and was able to finish all three in 1st place.

Round two was a little more difficult.

I started the second 50cc open race in first place and my front tire slid out in one of the turns.  Because of the slop of the turn, I had a hard time getting my bike back up.  Once I got it up I was in 5th place and really far behind the leader.  I rode the last three laps as fast as I could and was able to finish in 2nd place.

The second race in the 50cc age class started even worse.  Because I broke the radiator on my bike when I fell in the previous race, I had to switch bikes for the next race.  The second bike was set up a little different and when the gate dropped the bike went out of control.  I tried to stay on the gas and ride out of it, but the bike was cutting from side to side and I just bumped another rider and I went down.  By the time I got the bike up and got it re-started, I was very far in last place.  With a six lap race, I rode as hard as I could and by lap 4 I was in 1st place.  I was able to go from last to 1st and finish up with a win.

The last race of the day was 65cc age, and I started this race out with a hole shot.  I was in the lead and can you believe I slid out in a different turn.  Because I can’t reach the ground on my 65 I had to wait for someone to help me start my bike and of course I was at the farthest turn.  My Hailey, Mom, Dad and our friend Jerry ran the whole track to get me up as fast as they could.  I was up and running again, but now I was in last place.  I road really hard and pulled out a 1st place.  I couldn’t believe I was able to catch everyone and win.  I knew I wasn’t going to give up, but it was really cool to be able to still come in 1st.

I thought you would like to see a video of me racing.

This was a CMC race at the Hollister MX track September 2010.  Things did not start out very well.  I was lined up in a rutt that shot me to the side and I started the race in almost last place.  I was able to battle back and before long I took the lead and walked away with a win.

CROSS71 License Plate

Just picked up my personalized license plate….now all I need is to be about 9 years older, a driver’s license, and a car.

I guess I will let my Dad put it on his truck until I get older.

I Can’t Wait!

Great Practice

Yesterday I practiced at Club Moto in Livermore.  Because of my surgery and going to The Nationals, I had not been there to practice in a few weeks.  It was a really good practice!  My Dad worked on some suspension problems and I think things are getting better, my times were good.  I can’t believe how cold it was after the heat we had last week.  I can’t wait to see what the weather will be like this weekend for my next CMC Race.  -Wish Me Luck!

When the family took a trip to the Grand Canyon, I decided to “jump right in.”

Don’t worry….I lived to tell about it!

HOME SWEET HOME

Posted: October 4, 2010 in Pictures

Now home from the Dodge Amateur Motocross Nationals and it is rainy, cold and windy.  What happened to the weather?  I was sitting in the 110 degree sun with all my gear on for thirty plus minutes waiting to race….then racing on a huge dirt track that felt like riding through a desert.  I can’t believe it is overcast and windy this week.

I want to thank my Mom, Dad and Sister Hailey for all the support this week.  Auntie Cheryl and Mike came out to watch me a couple of days and even washed my gear so I could look great.  Another big thank you to MAC Industries for the generator and letting me come over to go swimming so I could cool off.

We spent all afternoon Saturday and all day Sunday washing the bikes and gear and getting everything back in order.   Time for next week.  Weather permitting I hope to practice this week and get ready for the next race in Chico.
